Scottish 6 Day sprint / park race - 08 Aug 2007
Event Information
Closing Date: 05 Aug 2007Punch type: Emit
Area name: Kingussie
Location: Duke of Gordon Hotel, Kingussie, Inverness-shire
Description:
Badenoch and Strathspey Orienteering Club have great pleasure in inviting you to the Scottish 6-day sprint race which this year is being held in the picturesque surroundings of the village of Kingussie, capital of Badenoch. The event is being held in the early evening (4pm – 6pm) giving you plenty of time to explore some more of the area during the “rest day” before competing.
Location: The event is based at the Duke of Gordon Hotel at the west end of Kingussie, on the road to Newtonmore.
Terrain: Very mixed with everything from detailed urban housing and parkland to birch woodland and farmland. A small river divides the settlement in two. Courses (other than that for beginners) all have a fair amount of climb.
Course: Four courses suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to elite orienteers are available to give as much variety as possible.
Elite: ~ 3km. Expected winning time 12-14 minutes.
Long: ~ 3km. Very similar course to the elite. Three age classes (junior: -16; senior: 17-34; veteran: 35+).
Medium: ~ 2km. A shorter course but with the same technical difficulty as the long. Suitable for children. Three age classes, as per long.
Beginner: ~0.5km. Suitable for the absolute beginner and small children.
Entry Fees: In line with the 6-days, there is a flat rate of entry fee for all competitors whether or not they are BOF or other international association members. Junior fees apply to those aged under 21 and full-time students aged 21 or over. Entry for the beginners course is free of charge.
Please note that the event is being held in an urban environment with fast moving motor traffic likely. The elite and long courses cross a busy main road. However, the medium and beginner courses have been planned to avoid crossing this road in order to make them suitable for younger competitors. All competitors take part at their own risk.
A start list will be prepared for the elite classes only. A “punching” start will apply for all other classes.
Please note that the Duke of Gordon hotel is open for meals from 11 a.m. until 9.30 p.m. and we would encourage competitors to make use of the facilities before, during or after the event.
Further details about the event can be found in the Scottish 6 day event programme. Final details will be published on the BASOC website and will also be made available at 6-day events and at the event centre in Grantown-on-Spey.
